One of the great things about Spring and Summer is that we can enjoy the birds. But, after their long flight back home, the birds are hungry! So, a perfect outdoor project to do with your children is to make a bird feeder. There are several ways to make feeders using recyclable materials.

This blog gives some great examples of materials to use and ways in which you can do this activity. Be sure to read the end of the blog to see the STEAM concepts learned in this activity.

Wait! Weren’t you taller this morning? So what happened during the day? Why are you shorter at night than in the morning?

Today, we’ll learn from the Canadian Space Agency how gravity affects our height. Get a free downloadable worksheet here and help your kids learn how gravity is so focused on keeping things down that it makes us shorter throughout the day. Beforehand, ensure you have the necessary tools: a measuring tape, masking tape, a book and a family member or friend. Once you’re done, enjoy this fun space-themed story of kids who fly to space to recuse their puppy!

Incorporating STEAM learning with little kids can seem daunting if you don’t have a background in Science or the capacity to create fun activities daily. But, lucky for us, that’s not the case. The Growing Thinker is here to remind us of the simplicity of STEAM learning and how easy it is to bring it into everyday life. The core of STEAM learning is to encourage and build a child’s critical thinking skills, which you can do even on a nature walk. Read more here and try it out on your next activity.
