We’ll be sharing stories written by authors from BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities, and we will explore topics that help us to understand diverse perspectives – all while celebrating our love of reading!

SUPER SPEECH BUBBLES

Celebrate I Love to Read Month by making some speech bubbles you can use over and over again!

Materials

  • Dowels
  • Cardstock
  • Packing Tape
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape
  • Dry Erase Marker

Directions

  • Draw a speech bubble on a piece of cardstock.
  • Use the scissors to cut it out.
  • Cover the entire front of your speech bubble with packing tape. Use the scissors to cut off any extra packing tape from around the edges.
  • Tape the dowel to the back of your speech bubble.
  • Use the washi tape to decorate the dowel.
  • Write a message on your speech bubble using the dry erase marker. When you’re done, erase it and write a new one!

Spark Creative Learning!

  • Explore different languages! Choose a simple message or greeting and write it (or learn to write it) in as many different languages as you can.
  • How many different ways can you end a sentence? Practice writing sentences using different kinds of punctuation marks.
  • Tell your own tale by creating your own comic. Select actors or characters for your story and take pictures of them saying different things. Print these pictures out and arrange them to create your own comic book!
