MINI MONDAYS READING LIST

It’s time for another Mini Mondays reading list. Listed below are titles tailored to our little VIPS (children under 4 years old). We hope they bring laughter, curiosity and fun while sparking creative learning.

You’re All Kinds of Wonderful
Tillman, Nancy

We’re not all the same. Thank goodness we’re not.

Life would be boring, and I mean… a lot.

And so, when we’re born, we’re supplied at the start

with our own bells and whistles to set us apart.

Think of your bells as the things you do best

things tucked away in your own treasure chest.

Part of growing up is discovering–and embracing–what makes us unique. From different abilities to different personalities, we are all wonderfully made with our own bells and whistles.

This Is Not My Hat
Klassen, Jon

When a tiny fish shoots into view wearing a round blue topper (which happens to fit him perfectly), trouble could be following close behind. So it’s a good thing that enormous fish won’t wake up. And even if he does, it’s not like he’ll ever know what happened…

Visual humor swims to the fore as the best-selling Jon Klassen follows his breakout debut with another deadpan-funny tale.

I’m The Boss
Gravel, Elise and Simard, Charles

Readers of all ages (but mostly the little ones) will understand how this tiny monster feels. For once in their life, this small beast wants to get everything it wants, right here, RIGHT NOW! While the grown-up monster can’t give them a plane they can fly or a cake with lots of candy on top, they can give them a really big hug when they feel upset. This delightful board book will make the little tyrants in your life giggle at the ridiculousness of the demands. And the text’s repetition of “A big one! Right now!” will have toddlers hollering along with glee. Orca apologizes in advance for any autocratic tendencies this book may inspire.

Prairie 123s
Asnong, Jocey

Jocey Asnong’s whimsical illustrations celebrate the prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba in this unique board book. Graze with bison in Grasslands National Park, cheer on two Stampede stars in Calgary, sing country songs with meadowlarks in Minnedosa, Manitoba, and play hide and seek among the hay bales before a thunderstorm rolls in. This early concept board book helps young children develop number recognition and counting skills, while learning the basics about the Canadian prairies.
