LOVE LOCAL: SPARK CREATIVE LEARNING IN WINNIPEG

Source: Prairie Theatre Exchange

In Prairie Theatre Exchange production The War Being Waged (pictured), on now until November 21, an Indigenous mother becomes an activist while her brother becomes a soldier. A grandmother raises a child with love, in community. A granddaughter full of turmoil finds her voice. Three generations of Indigenous women are woven into this new work by Winnipeg-based theatre artist Darla Contois. And three performance genres tell their story – monologue, poetry with video and movement, and contemporary dance – all tied together by the playwright’s story and an all-encompassing set design that has built a world for all three to live inside. Currently streaming digitally through Manitoba Theatre for Young People until November 19, The Snail and the Whale is about a tiny sea snail who hitches a life on the tail of a great big, grey-blue humpback whale in order to see the world. When the whale gets beached, how will the snail save him? Join an adventurous young girl and her seafaring father as they reimagine the Julia Donaldson story of one crustacean’s incredible trip around the world, brought vividly to life with music, storytelling and loads of laughs.
