Spring Break Line-Up 2020 (CANCELLED)

Celebrate Spring Break at the Children’s Museum! Become a deep-sea diver, fisherman, or marine biologist and dive into the ocean! Bring your creativity and join us daily from 11:00AM – 3:00PM as we depart on marine adventures, visit with special guests, and work together to create our own artistic aquarium filled with sea creature crafts!


Daily Schedule

  • Saturday, March 28, 2020: Five-Pointed Starfish
    Experience science in action with the University of Manitoba’s Let’s Talk Science. Make the first mark on our artistic aquarium with a puffy paint starfish craft, and get moving as you help us seek out starfish of a different colour!
  • Sunday, March 29, 2020: Whale-A-Palooza
    Have a whale of a time as we make underwater crafts with Graffiti Art Programming Inc! Once you’re done, have some parachute fun as we help save some krill from being eaten by a whale.
  • Monday, March 30, 2020: Jolly Jellyfish
    Swimming high or swimming low, create a jolly jellyfish with artist Megan Krause and add it to our artistic aquarium! Later, put your own movement skills to the test as you try to navigate our jellyfish bloom!
  • Tuesday, March 31, 2020: Hungry, Hungry Sharks
    Join special guests Freeze Frame for animated fun. Later, join us at the Creation Station as you create your own hungry, alphabet-eating shark. But wait, there’s another hungry shark waiting to be fed – help us pick the best food for him, quick!
  • Wednesday, April 1, 2020: Colourful Coral
    Habitats are all around us. Plant seedlings and learn about how trees are important to our ecosystem with experts from Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development – Forestry Branch. After that, build your own piece of colourful coral, mix it in some paint, and add some brilliant flare to our artistic aquarium. Join us as we grab our fishing poles and help seek out fish who are hiding in the reef!
  • Thursday, April 2, 2020: Polar Bear Express
    A fan favourite will be returning to the Children’s Museum – hop onboard the Fun Express Train courtesy of Playworld Fun Rentals. At the Creation Station, make your own puffy polar bear to swim along in our artistic aquarium.
  • Friday, April 3, 2020: Sand Dollar Urchins
    FortWhyte Alive will be joining us on our aquatic adventures as they challenge us to keep water clean. What kind of ocean week would be complete without sand? Create your own sand dollar and mould, cut, and experiment with colourful kinetic sand!
  • Saturday, April 4, 2020: Bubbly Bobbly Seahorses
    Take a break on the side of the ocean with a fine furry friend! The Winnipeg Humane Society will be dropping by from 11:00AM – 1:00PM with a friendly canine pal in tow. Enjoy some hands-on building and hunting for treasure with Engineering For Kids of Winnipeg from 1:00PM – 3:00PM. Dive back into the ocean blue and prepare to jump the waves like an elegant seahorse, then paint your own seahorse with bubble wrap!
  • Sunday, April 5, 2020: Dancing Crabs
    Experience science in action with the University of Winnipeg’s Let’s Talk Science. Get messy with hand-print painting dancing crabs in our artistic aquarium. Later, put your own crab legs to the test to see how fast you can move like a crab!

Celebrate Spring Break at the Children’s Museum! Become a Castle Builder and start designing, creating, and building this spring break. Grab a construction hat and join us daily from 11:00AM – 3:00PM for fun interactive building activities, special guests, crafts, and more!

    Let’s start building and kick off Spring Break at the Children’s Museum! Construct life-size cardboard castles as you create a collaborative art project with special guest artist, Colleen Leduc. If a cardboard castle isn’t for you, we have our Duplo Blocks available too!
  • Sunday, March 25
    Castles and dragons at the Children’s Museum? Come create your very own paper plate dragon, play “Prince, Princess and Knight” and unleash your imagination building with special guests, Bricks 4 Kidz. There will be Lego racing, castle mosaics, and more!
  • Monday, March 26
    Become royalty for a day at the Children’s Museum and craft your very own crown. Afterwards, build a fort for you and your kingdom. Join special guests Let’s Talk Science as they guide you in building your very own marshmallow structures and more! **BONUS!** Catch a demo workshop of TETRIS by MTYP from 10:00AM – 10:30AM!
  • Tuesday, March 27
    Explore amazing structures with special guests, WISE Kid-Netic Energy! Create tin foil canoes, bridges, towers, and more. Who said cups were just for drinking? Come and play Stack Attack with as many cups as you can. Then after all the building, take some time to design a modern-day version of a medieval crest of your very own.
  • Wednesday, March 28
    Join special guest artist Megan Krause as she helps guide you in designing cardboard castle creations. Add your own special touches to the museum’s cardboard castle as we continue creating all week long. Then, put on your armor and tackle our very own Knight Obstacle Course.
  • Thursday, March 29
    Become a master builder! Make your own builder mask and get ready for a day of fun. With your mask, a museum map, and your detective skills, hunt down the building blocks hidden throughout the museum. Join special guests Bricks 4 Kidz in the building extravaganza and create Lego masterpieces.
  • Friday, March 30
    What’s in your castle? Get creative as you craft your very own castle sticker. Ever wonder how all the building materials get from the source to the site? A train – that’s how. Gather in the Great Hall to jump onto the Fun Express Train courtesy of Playworld Fun Rentals.
  • Saturday, March 31
    Join Let’s Talk Science as you explore the physics of flight, compete in a bridge building competition, and experiment with levers and pulleys. Head over to the Creation Station for even more building with pipe cleaners and straws. Later, you and your friends can build together using your own bodies during a game of Human Building.
  • Sunday, April 1
    Enjoy your last day of vacation at the museum before preparing to go back to school. Create a cotton swab castle painting. Build a tower as tall as you with Tumble Blocks. Join Design It! to build a Wacky Gumball machine with various materials and marbles.

Mini Nuit Blanche 2017

Nuit Blanche is a free all-night exploration and celebration of contemporary art that takes place on the Saturday of the Culture Days weekend. All-night means different things to different people, and for us it means 8:30PM! So – seize the night, and come spark your creative learning after dark by enjoying FREE(*) admission to the museum galleries! Make some squishy slime in all the colours of the rainbow, get creative with some free cotton candy (while supplies last), and embrace your inner artist as you join in collaborative art making with award-winning local artist and The Brush Off! participant Megan Krause!

Are you an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of person? If so, not to worry – you can still participate in our Mini Culture Days art project outside the Children’s Museum between 11:00AM – 3:00PM.
