Grand Opening Event

June 4, 2011 @ 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Grand Opening 2011

On Saturday, June 4 at 10AM sharp, construction ground to a halt at the Children’s Museum at The Forks as a large crowd gathered to watch a rather unusual scene.

Bagpiper Jimm Simon, surrounded by a cast a colourful characters including The Mayor, The Artist, Field Trip Kid, and The Conductor, lead a procession featuring two very special guests to the front of the line at today’s Grand Opening event.

Sisters Keila & Nikki R. were the last two children to leave the old galleries on the day the Children’s Museum closed for renovations in September 2010 – however, they were back this morning (and maybe just a little bit shy!) to begin the day’s festivities by cutting the large red entrance ribbon and releasing all the FUN inside the new Children’s Museum for everyone to share. They did a wonderful job, as moments after the girls cut the ribbon, the crowd’s silence was broken by the excited cheers of those seeing the museum’s 12 new galleries for the first time.

The party continued throughout the day with performances by Jacques Chenier and Evan Morgan, and many helpings of tasty birthday cake too, as the Children’s Museum celebrated its 25th Birthday today alongside the reopening of its galleries. See all the fun in our Photo Gallery!

The Children’s Museum is now open to the public, and we look forward to welcoming you and your family to the museum soon. To plan your next visit, click here today.
