CANADA DAY POSTCARD
Share the story of your Canada Day far and wide with this festive, personalized Canada Day postcard!
Materials
- Cardstock
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Pencil
- Ruler
Directions:
- On one side of the cardstock, use a ruler and a pencil to outline the back of your postcard. Where would you place your stamp? Do you want to leave room to draw, or fill the entire back of your postcard with lines to tell your epic tale?
- Once you have your back sketched out, flip your cardstock over.
- Use paint and a paintbrush to make two red rectangles on either end of your cardstock.
- Use the paintbrush to apply red paint to your hand.
- Press your hand into the middle of the white space between the two red rectangles. Your Canada flag is now complete!
- Leave your postcard to dry. Once it’s dry, turn it over and tell someone all about all the fun things you did on Canada Day. See below for our suggestions on how this activity can help support the English Language Arts curriculum from Kindergarten-Grade 5!
How does this spark creative learning?
Kindergarten – Grade 2:
How can we make sure people understand the stories that we’re telling? If you’re still learning how to write, use this opportunity to practice your storytelling skills! Tell an adult in your life all about your Canada Day adventures, and let them write them down. If you’re able to, practice writing on your own. Regardless of where you’re at, experiment with the layout of your postcard to combine your wonderful words and images to craft a terrific Canada Day tale!
Grade 3-5:
Let your voice be heard! What was your favourite part of Canada Day? Why? Use your postcard to send your personal thoughts and feelings to a friend, and tell them why your Canada Day was the absolute best!
