SPRING-Y FRIENDS

Spring into action this season as you discover some tasty treats for your playful pal!

Materials

  • Construction Paper
  • Felt
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Craft (popsicle) stick
  • Markers

Directions

  • Cut a long rectangle from your construction paper. We made ours 16 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide, but the size is up to you.
  • Fold your paper like an accordion so that there are three equal segments. Use glue to attach your craft stick to the back of your accordion.
  • Unfold your accordion to start to create your spring-y animal pal! The bottom segment will be the bottom of their mouth. Use markers to decorate.
  • The middle segment will be the top of their mouth. Use markers to decorate.
  • The top segment will be their face! Use scissors to cut pieces of felt and construction paper to add details like eyes, ears, and a nose. Use glue to add them on and use your markers to decorate.
  • Hold onto your craft stick and move your animal back and forth to watch their mouths open and close as they speak, or gobble down tasty treats!

Spark Creative Learning!

  • Mooooo! Oink! Arf! What sound does your animal friend make? Try making different kinds of animals that all make different sounds!
  • What sort of tasty treats does your animal like to eat? Can you think of any animals that eat plants? Plant a tiny seed in a pot indoors, and stick your spring-y animal pal into the dirt to let them watch over your plant as they wait for it to grow.
  • Did you know different types of teeth help animals eat different types of food? What type of food does your animal eat? What type of teeth do they have?
