ChooChoo’s Blog: TD Canada Trust Book Sale

ChooChoo

Wow - what a great Friday!

Yesterday over the lunch hour the TD Canada Trust branch at 201 Portage Avenue held a used book sale in support of the Manitoba Children’s Museum - in particular to raise funds for next year’s I Love to Read Month activities which are sure to be even better than this past year thanks to their efforts!

So…how did things go at the frontline?

TD Canada Trust Book SaleMCM’s Director of Development Janet McLeod was at the sale and managed to capture a few photos of the action, while TD’s Amanda Marsch reported that people “LOVED the idea of the book sale and are already asking when the next one will be” - so much so, that they’ve decided this will become an ongoing customer connection event for their branch!

If you’re a TD Financial Group customer, a Winnipeg Square shopper, or simply a book fan, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for a future sales event which Amanda reports will likely happen within the next two months. In the meantime, feel free to donate your gently-used books to the TD Canada Trust branch at 201 Portage Avenue.

This first book sale raised almost $500 for the Manitoba Children’s Museum - and at $1/each, you can bet all of those hundreds of books will provide great new experiences in the hands of their new owners!!!

Thanks again to all the TD Canada Trust staff who helped make this event a great success!

February’s I Love to Read Month Activities are sponsored by the TD Financial Group.

If you’d like to add your donation to our “I Love to Read Month” activities that help share the joy of reading with kids, please click the PayPal button below.

ChooChoo’s Blog: Camryn’s MCM Font

ChooChooCamryn's MCM FontMy good friend Erin Kangas, the museum’s FUNdraising Coordinator, showed me an amazing font created by a special child she knows just for the Manitoba Children’s Museum. It’s so cool I have to post it here. Each letter is made out of children - how cool is that?

Thanks for sharing your creation with us, Camryn - you’ve got amazing talent! We’ll be sure to find a great place to use it in the future!

ChooChoo’s Blog: Closure Week Helpers

ChooChooAs many of you may know, this past week was Closure Week at the museum.

Everywhere I looked, my staff friends were hard at work cleaning, painting, and repairing the exhibit pieces we all love. What a flurry of activity!

We were also incredibly lucky to have a team of volunteers from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) join us on Wednesday, adding a full day of enthusiastic energy to Closure Week activities.

Thanks to this great group, MCM will sparkle when we re-open on September 12!

When I paws-ed for a quick break, Lynn Silver, our Volunteer Resources Manager, tipped me off that this wasn’t the first time PwC has helped us out.

“This is the 3rd year that a PwC Volunteer Team has offered support to the MCM during Closure Week,” reports Lynn. “In 2008, a PwC Volunteer Team also helped us get Santa’s Village ready for Santa’s arrival in mid-November.”

Community support like this really is vital, as the museum is rarely closed and our to-do list is rarely short. From all of at the Manitoba Children’s Museum, we’d like to say thanks again to the PwC Volunteer Team - you guys are wonderful!
